Here is some useful information on various aspects of lawnmowers that you should consider before buying.

Push Lawnmower
For a smaller flat garden a push mower would be suitable for your needs.  They are still petrol driven however they need to be pushed by the user.  Push mowers would be at the lower end of the price range.

Self Propelled Mowers
A self propelled mower will travel under its own power meaning there is no great effort required on the part of the user, apart from guiding the lawnmower, changing direction and emptying the grass collector.  Self propelled lawnmowers can comewith variable speed or single speed.

Hydrostatic Transmission
Hydrostatic Transmissions are available on higherend pedestrian lawnmowers.  A hydrostatic transmission canm provide high power in a compact size.  A hydrostatic lawnmower will last far longer than a conventional lawnmower.

Mulching Deck
Mulching is a special blade and deck that is fitted on your lawnmower that causes grass clippings to be cut into very fine particles and then distributed onto soil surface.

Mulching enhances the health and growth of the lawn.  As the grass clippings are 85% water and 5%, they are broken down quickly and easily by the soil micro-organisms which release nutrients back into the soil to nourish it and it also saves you having to empty the grass bag so it will reduce cutting time.

Cutting Width
Most pedestrian lawnmowers have a cutting width between 18″ and 22″.  The wider the cutting width the quicker it will be to cut your lawn.
